August Moodboard

We may be showing our age again, but wasn’t August always synonymous with blistering heat and dodgy sun-tans? Oh well, it seems our heatwave has come and gone but we’re keeping the temperatures rising by fiercely stoking the designdough kitchen fires as we enter our busiest months of the year. Phew!

Early August brought about our Brand Labs interviews, and we met with the innovators behind four amazing businesses, one in food and nutrition, one in media, one in the arts, and one in software – a diverse mix to say the least. All interviewees were undoubtedly dedicated, passionate and ridiculously clued up on their respective industries, but ultimately we had to lead with our hearts over our heads on this one and chose a winner that not only inspires us creatively, but one we KNOW we can make a massive difference to. All of the candidates were worthy winners, but our chosen business has the scope to affect positive change in the lives of so many people…want to know who it is yet??? Well, it’s a bit of tricky one to announce as this particular business doesn’t have a logo or even an online presence, so we really will be building them from the ground up. What they do have though, is a truly innovative idea, vision and route to market, so you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled – we don’t want to give anything away and potentially launch a multitude of copycats.

As you may already know, we’ve led the design for pa black’s magazine ‘Distinctive’ over the past few years (the new edition will be released in early October) and this has given us a real hunger to produce more editorial and magazine work. Our current biggest inspirations are Mondial by Rapha (guys, you just keep on nailing it!) and the ever beautiful Kinfolk, and luckily for us, one of our long-standing clients has recently approached us to produce a high-end, coffee table magazine for them in order to diversify their marketing and membership base. Absolute bliss! It’s currently in production and is due to be distributed in mid-late September so we’ll be sure to take some snaps and publish a portfolio to show it off in all its glory, like the proud parents we are!

Before we go, we’d like to say a MASSIVE congratulations to a good friend and client of ours, Mike Donovan of Brushbox, who has recently found out that he’s in the running to become Natwest GB Entrepreneur of the Year in the innovation category. Well done Mike, this is so well deserved! Also, a huge congrats to another valued client of ours, Aimee Bateman of Careercake, who is a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. We wish you both the best of luck – we couldn’t think of better people to be in the running.
